Innovators
As a complement to and extension of its policy expertise and alliances, the GlobalWorks team seeks to identify, spotlight and support complementary anti-poverty and capacity-building initiatives and innovators, globally and on the ground in poor countries.
Innovator Spotlight – Summer 2010
- GlobalWorks Fellow Shamarukh Mohiuddin:
Shamarukh Mohiuddin is an inspiring young thought leader and advocate for economic and development policies that benefit the global poor, including her native Bangladesh. Ms. Mohiuddin is Executive Director of the USBAC, and is also collaborating with GlobalWorks and TASC, another NGO operated by GlobalWorks, to build alliances and educate opinion leaders in support of trade policies that reduce global poverty, including trade preference reforms, and in support of capacity building and economic recovery in Haiti. Ms. Mohiuddin will begin graduate studies at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in the fall of 2010.
- Women and Children:
BYkids is a unique new non-profit initiative pairing master American filmmakers with youth (ages 8-21) from around the world to mentor the child in creating a short documentary about his or her life. "BYkids seeks to change the way Americans see the world- and the way the world sees us- by using the power of film as a tool for global understanding and a catalyst for action." GlobalWorks will join other donors in supporting documentaries on the lives of young women.

- Grassroots Capacity Building:
Ambos Nogales -- The Santa Cruz Community Foundation of Nogales USA has developed a unique model for grassroots collaboration and cross-border capacity building with its Mexican counterpart, the Nogales Sonora Mexico chapter of the Mexican NGO, Fundacion del Empresariado (FESAC).
- Development Policy:
Bangladesh – The US Bangladesh Advisory Council is a young policy nonprofit based in Washington DC which develops and supports innovative ways to promote social and economic development in Bangladesh, including to promote decent work opportunities for Bangladeshis in a globalized world, to help Bangladeshis benefit from US foreign assistance and capacity building, to help address the impact of climate change on Bangladesh, and to promote the rule of law in Bangladesh.
