Innovators

As a complement to and extension of its policy expertise and alliances, the GlobalWorks team seeks to identify, spotlight and support complementary anti-poverty and capacity-building initiatives and innovators, globally and on the ground in poor countries.

Over the past two years, GlobalWorks Foundation provided support to the following innovators and initiatives:

  • Development Policy:

Bangladesh – The US Bangladesh Advisory Council is a young policy nonprofit based in Washington DC which develops and supports innovative ways to promote social and economic development in Bangladesh, including to promote decent work opportunities for Bangladeshis in a globalized world, to help Bangladeshis benefit from US foreign assistance and capacity building, to help address the impact of climate change on Bangladesh, and to promote the rule of law in Bangladesh.

Africa – Leadership Africa USA was established with the goal of assisting African youth in conflict-  affected countries to become the next generation of African leaders. "Our mandate is simple:  to partner with African organizations and government institutions in developing youth leadership programs that emphasize  sustainable peace and development. Our goal is to empower African youth, especially girls, to emerge as Africa's leaders of change and transformation."

  • Grassroots Capacity Building:

Ambos Nogales -- The Santa Cruz Community Foundation of Nogales USA has developed a unique model for grassroots collaboration and cross-border capacity building with its Mexican counterpart, the Nogales Sonora Mexico chapter of the Mexican NGO, Fundacion del Empresariado (FESAC).

      • “Crossings-A documentary produced by the Santa Cruz Community Foundation”
  • Women and Girls:

BYkids is a unique non-profit initiative pairing master American filmmakers with youth (ages 8-21) from around the world to mentor the child in creating a short documentary about his or her life. "BYkids seeks to change the way Americans see the world- and the way the world sees us- by using the power of film as a tool for global understanding and a catalyst for action." GlobalWorks joined other donors in supporting documentaries on the lives of young women.

  • GlobalWorks Fellow:

Shamarukh Mohiuddin- Ms. Mohiuddin is an inspiring young thought leader and advocate for economic and development policies that benefit the global poor, including her native Bangladesh. Ms. Mohiuddin is Executive Director of the USBAC, and also collaborates with GlobalWorks and TASC, another NGO operated by GlobalWorks, to build alliances and educate opinion leaders in support of trade policies that reduce global poverty, including trade preference reforms, and in support of capacity building and economic recovery in Haiti. Ms. Mohiuddin began graduate studies at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in the fall of 2010.
